Swindon Venues, concert lights Starting life in Saxon times as a small market town used mainly for barter trade, the Old Town is still very much in evidence. The quiet courtyards and narrow alleyways and the vibrant mix of pubs and traditional shops with modern stylish outlets and cafes provide plenty of entertainment possibilities for guests at any of the events organized at Swindon venues.

The quiet life changed dramatically in the 1840s with the arrival of the Great Western Railways which led to the development of the new town. This city center is fully pedestrianized with both indoor and outdoor shopping outlets, restaurants, bars and lovely accommodation and meeting venues.

Conference centers abound with many unique venues as well as those found in hotels and private establishments in the city.

The magnificent 18th century Lydiard House on the outskirts of town is a dedicated residential conference center providing all the necessary equipment for any meeting, conference or other corporate function as well as splendid parklands in which to stroll and convenient onsite leisure facilities. The Madison Hotel and Conference Center and the Swindon Marriott Hotel provide luxurious accommodation for both business and leisure guests with superb dining venues, luxury spa amenities and fitness centers to ensure delegates have plenty to keep themselves occupied with between sessions.

The beautiful Wiltshire district is perfect for weddings as so many hotels and special event venues are surrounded by magnificent gardens and parks. The Crickdale Hotel and Country Club is an ideal venue with sweeping lawns, a golf course and spa making it perfect for that most important day in anyone's life. Brides can choose between a wedding breakfast or an evening buffet and dancing with large and smaller rooms available. The Wrag Barn is another stunning location for a wedding or conference just outside Swindon in Highwood, with picturesque views over the Wiltshire Downs.

Theatres in the center of town host a mix of national and local shows with drama, comedy and music being very popular productions. The Wyvern Theatre is the town's principle stage venue. The Swindon Arts Center is in the Old Town and also used for all types of music shows, professional and amateur shows, one-man events, films and children's shows. The town has many live music venues with the more major events being played at the Oasis Leisure Centre and the Country Ground.

In close proximity to the city are many historic towns and villages that are also home to some stunning country hotels that include venues for conferences and weddings. Highworth is a typically English town while villages nearby include Blunsdon, Chiseldon and Bishopstone. Here guests can stay in an old converted manor house, a listed Palladian mansion dating back to the 18th century or quintessential English country homes.

These countryside venues also provide guests with easy access to the nearby tourist attractions of Barbury Castle, Crofton Pumping Station and Stonehenge, to mention but a few.
